Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in a session?

In our first session, I’ll invite you to share what has led you to counselling and what you hope to achieve through our meetings. Counselling can mean different things to different people. Some individuals seek a safe space to discuss their concerns without judgment, while others are looking for practical tools and strategies to manage their challenges. Some may want to explore their issues in depth and find a resolution that feels right for them. This session is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have.

How long does each session last?

Sessions usually last about 50 minutes to an hour for an individual and about an hour and 20 minutes for a couple.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some people may achieve their goals in a few sessions, while others may need longer-term support.

Is my therapy session confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of therapy. However, there are legal and ethical exceptions, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.

How much does counselling therapy cost?

My fees are $130 per session for individuals and $150 for couples. You may be eligible for partially funded or fully funded sessions through WINZ or ACC.

What happens if I cancel my appointment?

If you can give me a minimum of 24 hours’ notice, there is no fee. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, I do charge a 50% fee.

How will I know if therapy is working?

You may notice changes in your thoughts, feelings, or behaviours, as well as improvements in your relationships and overall well-being. I’ll regularly check in with you about your progress to ensure you feel heard and that we’re staying aligned with your goals.

Can I attend therapy virtually?

Yes, absolutely. While I offer face to face counselling, I also offer counselling via Teams, Zoom or phone.
